This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day: GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons visits Zimbabwe each year to hunt so-called “problem elephants.” “It’s one of the most beneficial and rewarding things I do,” he writes.

Not surprisingly, some people have a problem with Parsons’ “philanthropy,” and they’ve taken to Twitter, Facebook, and every other opinion-voicing medium to express their disapproval and disgust. “What the f*ck is wrong with you?,” filmmaker Eli Roth tweeted. “It’s sick f*cks like you that make me think Hostel could really happen.”

Others have taken more direct action: PETA named Parsons’ the Scummiest CEO of the Year, while rival domain registrar Namecheap announced a special reduced transfer fee of $4.99, with a $1 from each transfer to be donated to Save The Elephants.

Defending himself against accusations of heartlessness, Parsons wrote, “I have the support of the people who really matter in this situation, the families of Zimbabwe — people who need help to survive.” However, while “problem elephants” are a real thing, Time’s Ecocentric blog points out that shooting them is an extreme last-resort after non-lethal solutions like “chili and tobacco-based deterrents” have failed.

Also, “white man’s burden” is rarely, if ever, a valid excuse for an annual hunting vacation.

Let me also point out that not only is this guy an asshole, but his company will f you in the butt. I got slapped with a $910 charge for going over my bandwidth with them a few years back. I transferred immediately.

What a scumbag. If GoDaddy had any decency left, they’d fire him immediately.

It only strengthens my decision to change DNS registrars next week.

    Fraser Speirs: Stop Lying

In this blog post Fraser Speirs — programmer, teacher and “Apple Distinguished Educator” — comments on an article written by James Bridle. Among other things it’s about judging today’s and tomorrow’s technological advancements in reading and teaching by yesterday’s standards.

A serious must read; the original post and the commentary.

  • Google are a bunch of lying hypocrites

Google are a bunch of lying hypocrites

The linked article outlines the reason I much rather spend my money on something by Apple or Microsoft than anything that Google had its hands in.

With companies like Apple, Microsoft, HP, etc. life is pretty simple: They want my money, preferably loads of it and they don’t make a secret of it. For that I get products and services and no bullshit.

Google on the other hands just wants information, because knowledge is power and there is NO company more power hungry than Google. Not one.

  • Horace Dediu translates RIM’s tablet platform app strategy for management-speak to English

Horace Dediu translates RIM’s tablet platform app strategy for management-speak to English

    This is worth a read.

Mr. Dediu provides a passionless translation of RIM’s Co-CEO Jim Balsillie’s remarks during the announcement of their quarterly results.

I’m very sceptical of RIM’s approach. Reading between the lines, I gather from it, that RIM’s own OS is neither ready for deployment, nor capable to do what they need it to, in order to compete with Apple.

Their decision to emulate Android apps on it that aren’t optimised for tablet computers, is a bad short-term solution at best and shows their lack of commitment to their own platform.

Ad-companies angered by mobile Safari's default blocking of third party cookies

From the original article at MediaPost:

All browsers can present challenges for advertisers, but Apple’s focus on consumer privacy limits the viability of third-party cookie-based tracking systems.

    [Emphasis by me.]

Another example where Apple regards consumers to be their customers, not cellular carriers, not advertisers, not publishers.
